Before you take a step through the days of updating the Monument, please take a look at these first 2 pictures below.
The old version of the Monument was surounded by white stones, a fence and had grass leading up to the entrance; this would not have allowed easy access to the Monument for anyone in a wheel chair. It is also likely that any wheelchair being brought into the Monument area would sink in the 12+ inches of white stone which was present.
This gentleman came by as the third day of work was coming to an end.
As you can clearly see, not only cane he move freely with his wheelchair once at the Monument, but he also has an easy access to it from the sidewalk.

.
This may not have been a specifically planned result to the VFW's efforts to improve the Monument, but it certainly is a Bonus.
This simple statue to our Local Fallen has been transformed into a Monument of which the community can truly be proud, and a standing Memorial to those who have Given All They had to Give, for Our FREEDOM..
Honor Yourself, a Loved One, a Friend or just simply leave your message for the world.

To be a active part of this Memorial, consider purchasing a memorial Paver Brick. These bricks are not restricted to War Veterans, they are open to anyone for purchase. There are a total of roughly 2500 pavers available, but they are going fast.
As of this date [27-Sep-09], the first engraving has gone-out and are actually installed at the Memorial; this consisted of roughly 60 pavers.
The second set of pavers is getting ready to be sent-out for engraving, when they are received back, they will be installed based upon the weather permitting
For $50.00, you buy a 4" x 8" paver which has 3 lines of text with 12 letters per line [spaces count as letters.]

A special thanks go out to 2 Post members in particular who spent the entire 3 days working with the company which did all the demolition and re-construction at the Monument;
Don Atkinson and James Fernandez.

These 2 individuals have exemplified themselves in their

They have put their Hearts and Soals into
