Setting-up The Wall
![]() |
It doesn't seem possible that a 260" wall and all of the mounting material could fit into this small of a space.
The platform was laid on Wednesday [23-Jul-08] to make sure nothing was going to interfere with the staging of The Wall.
Several of the tents were put up on Wednesday afternoon as well as Thursday morning.
The C-channel was screwed onto on the platform so The Wall had a place to fit in and not "slip" off the platform
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154 begin to arrive. VVA 154 was instrumental in making sure that we had all our bases covered, they had a represention at every Wall Meeting
The Volunteers are beginning to really turn out. Some had specific sections of The Wall they wanted to help put in place.
The apex had to go up first, these two panels set the stage for the rest of The Wall being in-line and stable.
Once the Michigan Moving Wall was set-up, the Volunteers came over to help with our Wall. The Michigan Moving Wall is owned by VVA 154.
We had to add 2x6 pieces to the boardwalk to ensure we had as possible of a stable surface for the back lag bolts
Once the Apex was up and secure, the other panels began to fall right into place
Sometimes waiting was the hardest part. We didn't want too many panels aout of the box at a time, mainly just to protect the panels from accidental damage.
James Fernandez stepped-up to cronicle the entire visit of The Wall to Algonac. Eventually, he is going to producea dvd of the event for our archives.
The East section is complete. This wall maybe made of aluminum, but it shines and reflects like highly-polished granite.
The West section went-up pretty quickly, everyone was in a paced mode ny this point.
The landscaping was incredible, nothing new was planted. The pots were placed and the mulch was dropped in and around it to give the mounded look. VERY Nicely done.
From ground level, looking over The Wall with the St. Clair River and Canada in the background. This really is a fitting place for The Wall to be shown for the first time to ever be in St. Clair County.
Some of the finishing touches included the flags on loan to us from our brothers in the Wapole Island Veterans Association..
The "Eagle Staff" seen here is Wapole Islands monument to their fallen soldiers. Each feather represents a brave man who was killed in action. We are Very honored they saw fit t allow us to post their Monument along with our Monument. The Eagle Staff stayed posted until the end of the Closing Ceremony, when it was carried out with all the flags.
